Moving the Environment: Questions into Form with Daniel Lepkoff 2017

Programming category:
December 7, 2017 - 5:00pm - December 10, 2017 - 3:00pm

The work considers the body's interactions with its environment as material for dance. Inside of a moment lies an opportunity to move our attention and frame questions before an answer appears. Specific exercises look at details inside of ordinary movement and propose strategies to inspire our imagination and create mystery, music, and geometry.

For anyone interested in researching movement and developing their presence as a vehicle for communication. "The image is not ours alone to create." Daniel Lepkoff

Participant Community Support
As Earthdance runs as a community, all participants contribute to 1-2 chore shifts (typically meal cleans) throughout the workshop and a Final House Clean on Sunday, December 10th. These are great ways to connect more with your fellow participants, Earthdance staff, and to feel more at home here. We will be welcoming you into this collective home and thus so appreciate your contributions to our space!

Faculty
Daniel Lepkoff

Beginning in the early '70's Daniel Lepkoff played a central role in the development of Release Technique with John Rolland and Mary Fulkerson, and Contact Improvisation with Steve Paxton. Through ongoing experimentation with new forms of performance, workshoping specific questions about movement, intense periods of personal movement research, and an ongoing stream of collaborations with improvising artists, Daniel has slowly expanded and deepened his understanding of functional movement and the presence of the imagination in the body.

As a performer he is known for composing dances that arises from the process of living movement and as a teacher for his continual invention of original techniques, making direct contact with information and pursuing questions together with students. He is one of the founders of Movement Research in NYC. He works internationally and lives on a piece of land in Vermont.
