March 17 (Tuesday evening) - This two-day work retreat allows time to dive into questions at the meeting ground between choreography and improvisation. At the heart of contact is a mandate to listen, respond, and transform. These two days will be spent finding inroads to 'setting' dances that adhere to this mandate but eke closer and closer to choreography Directed by Amii, we will look at and make solo and group phrase work and contact 'phrases' and play with how this choreography-as-selection process can be intellectually and creatively satisfying. And fun! And performable! Come be a dancer artist in a directed process. Participants are welcome to take only the performance project or to take the Performance Project followed by the Spring Equinox Jam. After 15 years of dancing and dance making in Seattle WA, Amii LeGendre moved to the Hudson Valley, NY to raise her now three year old daughter and to make dance and community on the East Coast. All over New England she teaches modern and contact improvisation in residencies to college students, teenagers, adults at large, and prisoners. She hosts a weekly dance lab group with local dance artists, and choreographs and performs alternative dance and improvisation work with a small group of peers. She's interested in the intersections between improvisation and structure, prisoner and civilian, mother and artist, storyteller and dancer.
Arrival Tuesday, 3/17, after 5 p.m.
