We will investigate the relationships between body systems and earth system as a way to build empathy and understanding of the planet and to build movement with meaning for ourselves, our communities, and our art making practices. We will combine embodied anatomical studies from the perspective of Body-Mind Centering ® with movement experiences on the land at Earthdance.
The BodyCartography Project investigates the physical resonance of space in urban, domestic, wild, technological and social landscapes through dance, film and installation work. We activate space and challenge social and perceptual limitations of physical freedom. We engage and provoke audiences in diverse contexts through collaborative processes with independent artists and communities. The Project invites participants and audiences to enter their animal-like appetites and childlike curiosities for physical investigation through engagement of the sensorial body. Motivated by ecological issues we place our bodies in direct relationship to the world highlighting our interdependence on its fragile ecosystems. Directors Olive Bieringa and Otto Ramstad have created works for eight short films and over one hundred and fifty live events in the USA, Canada, Brazil, New Zealand, Japan, Europe and Russia. Support for the BodyCartography Project comes from the Bush Foundation, the Jerome Foundation, the Minnesota State Arts Board, Creative NZ amongst others. www.bodycartography.org As a part of our SEEDS Festival, this workshop may be taken individually each afternoon from Tuesday - Friday, or may also be taken in conjunction with Pause which will be offered each morning from Tuesday - Friday..
