Among the misty forest, damp moss and fallen leaves no creature was stirring, not even a mouse. Untill, that is, exactly a week ago today and exactly 10 years after our eldest son Vitai was born. That day, amid the continuous rains and the way above normal temperatures for this time of year, our third son decided that it was the perfect time to come into our midst. Nanuq, named after the Inuit God of the successful hunt and visualized as a great Polar Bear, was born at Andy’s cabin. With the help of Tanya and Rebecca, two of the sweetest and most professional midwives out there and Robyn our doula and neighbor. Despite Earthdance 35+ years, Nanuq is only the second baby ever to have been born here. The first was Shino, the second daughter of Victoria and Steven Yoshen, two of the founders. She was born right in the Farmhouse living room shortly after the Earthdance land was initially purchased.
We feel blessed with this new life among us and feel deeply privileged to have such a caring group of people on site who continue to offer support both with the little one and also by nourishing us and playing with his two big brothers. The African proverb “It takes a village to raise a child” is something Lina and I have deeply taken to heart. The fact that our current village also happens to be one of the world's meccas for embodied relating and improvisation fills us with even more gratitude and hope for the blossoming of our little family.
As per our family tradition the naming of our children is a collective process, (Not a consensus based one though 😉). And after some initial community consultation we’ve started creating a shortlist for Nanuq’s second name. Some of the Top picks include: Andreu, honoring his place of birth with a Catalan wink; Solomon to help seed peace in this world and because it sounds majestic. Other noteworthy mentions include: Milosh, even though we think one Osh is enough to not need a thousand more; Nanuq le Duke and the unbeatable Nanuq Michael Princess. If you feel inspired and get on it quickly we’d be more than excited to read your ideas on the subject.
With warm family and holiday greetings, Lina, Daniel, Vitai, Osh and Nanuq |
